Two-Day Seminar for Climate Change and Forests - Conservation of Tropical Forests towards the Green Economy -

Objective

Deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries are often inextricably linked to the economic growth in developing countries. REDD+ is a unique opportunity to make the forest conservation compatible with sustainable development by providing financial incentives to developing countries that have successfully reduced GHG emissions from forests. Moreover, the forest conservation in the context of the "Green Economy" attracted considerable attention at Rio+20 in June 2012.

However, several key issues are yet to be incarnated in order to realize REDD+, which include partnership with the private sector, robust MRV systems, safeguards, and scaling up of REDD+ activities from the project level to the national level, among others.

This seminar aims to share expertise and experiences from precedent activities of the above mentioned issues so as to encourage a broad range of actors to engage in REDD+ activities. The expected participants are from governments, research and educational institutions, NGOs, the private sector, and the general public.
